Movin’ On Up

30 Jan

OK, ok, ok , everyone — I’ve played a cruel joke. I didn’t realize that in my last post I had said that I would provide a timely update about my medical issues, unless I was going to die. It’s been a few days since my last update, but please, let me assure you — I am not about to croak. At least, I don’t think so…

You see, I never quite made it to my doctor’s appointment. I didn’t get paid until Wednesday, so I couldn’t really show up until my check had cleared. I rescheduled for Thursday morning, but as I was frantically trying to cross the road the bus I needed to catch passed me right up. (Yes, the driver saw me frantically waving her down — no, she did not stop.) I could have waited for the next one to come around, but by that point I had missed the express and wouldn’t have made it in time anyway. I decided to reschedule in lieu of missing both my appointment and a half-day of work.  So — I bought myself some time. My new appointment is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

That aside — I’ve had a pretty busy week.

On Wednesday evening I was supposed to pick Yoga up some food after work, but I never quite made that appointment either. Addam’s never been great with directions, but he really threw me a curveball that night. I ended up biking through quite possibly the worst part of town I have been to since moving to Miami. Right after I as going through a large group of suspicious looking individuals I moved to jump onto the sidewalk and completely ate pavement. My foot got wrapped in my chain and my head hit the ground. I worked to quickly get back on the bike and out of the neighborhood, but this guy started biking next to me! He didn’t really bother me expect to tell me that I was going to kill myself, but it was intimidating. I ignored him, and he was gone after about two blocks, but the entire situation was definitely unsettling. I googled my own directions and got the food the next day.

“Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine”

I’m going to apologize ahead of time — I’m running on little sleep and a long production day. I really don’t even know where to begin…

For starters — my cell is officially up and running. Thank God. (Well, no, actually — thank Steve.) I’ve missed it, and I’m not even a big phone person. With a few exceptions I really don’t call up many people just to chat. That said, I do love to txt, and not having the option was beginning to drive me a little crazy.

I also have a couple of doctor’s appointments set up for this week.

About six months ago, when I was still working at PetSmart, I noticed this strange line of light in one of my eyes. I didn’t really think too much about it, until someone I worked with told me that one of my pupils was significantly smaller than the other. It was weird, but with the move to Miami I had a relatively easy time pushing it out of my mind. The thing is, since the move I’ve been noticing it more and more. Under certain circumstances and in different situations my right eye doesn’t seem to focus on light correctly.

The other night Addam and I were waiting to catch a bus, and I told him that the street lamps were bothering me. It was like the light was too bright and everything else was too dull — but just in the one eye. (I know this makes absolutely no sense, but I hope everyone is following me.) The really creepy part is that later that night, while Addam and I were enjoying a drink at Miami Prime for his friend’s birthday, this girl stopped me mid-sentence to tell me that my pupils were two completely different sizes and that it was “really cool.”

Miami Prime, Buffy and house cleaning

24 Jan

Hello, hello, hello, everyone. Sorry for the delay between posts, but my internet connection has been pretty lack-luster in recent weeks. If I wasn’t about to move into another apartment I might actually do something about it.

That being said – I don’t really know where to start with this post. Things have been, for a lack of better words, pretty shitty. For starters – my cell phone is broken. It fell out of my pocket while I was biking home from work, leaving it completely smashed. I haven’t been able to call or text anyone for about two weeks now, but thanks to Addam’s dad it should be up and working by tomorrow. Thank goodness.

Day-to-day stressors have been driving me out of my mind, and I need a little BFF time to regain my footing. (Heather – definitely expect a call this week. You have absolutely no idea how much I’ve been needing you lately. You get me, and I’ve been missing our Tuesdays/Wednesdays.)

“Find yourself a girl and settle down”

Drum roll please…

I know that I have kept people waiting for a wedding update, but after weeks and weeks of lying to you guys — it’s finally here!

As many of you know, in December my little sister (to be) came down to Miami and helped me look for wedding dresses. (Ok, that’s not why she came. She came to go on a winter cruise to Cozumel with her hunky boyfriend. But she helped me all the same.) We spent two weekends searching through rack upon rack of white gowns, and after trying on close to 30, I’m here to report on what we found. Keep in mind that while I’m posting close to everything I tried on, there are only a few that are real contenders. The first of which, is definitely not one…

“Salute Your Solution”

4 Jan

This post is coming to you a bit late today — partly because it was my long day at work and partly because I’ve been so busy lately that I needed to shut my mind off for a bit. After biking home I spent the majority of my evening watching movies and forgetting how to think. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Addam was off work yesterday, so when I came home I didn’t have to worry about how I would waste time while waiting for him to make it back to the apartment. He had stopped by the grocery store and brought me home all the ingredients I needed to cook some of the best, and healthiest, cheesy potato soup I’ve ever had in my life. (I know that “cheese” seems to negate “healthy,” but everything was either low-calorie or fat free, making it less than 250 calories per serving but just as rich and filling.)

I spent the evening peeling potatoes and slicing carrots. I threw everything in the crock pot and left it alone for the night, only to wake up to the smell of potatoes roasting in vegetable broth. I’ve never been much of a cook, but waking up this morning almost converted me. The smell may have convinced me to make cooking a habit if I didn’t have to wake up half an hour early to add in the finishing touches (a.k.a. — milk and cheese). Needless to say, I had a very yummy, very nutritious, lunch today.

Everybody’s having fun out here

2 Jan

After a weekend of wrestling with my internet provider, I’ve finally rid myself of connectivity issues, leaving myself free to post an update on how I spent my New Year.

While I thought I was going to spend the night watching movies and waiting for Addam to get home, the Eve ended up being far better than I expected.

Addam had to work until about 12:30 a.m., so I rang in the New Year with Tati, who came over around 10:00 p.m. or so. We spent the evening drinking FourLocos and watching movie after funny movie. We were honestly not paying much attention to anything but each other and almost missed the countdown entirely. I had the ball drop streaming on my laptop and happened to look down when there was 45 seconds to go.

We were about halfway through Zack and Miri Make a Porno when Vicki showed up. We rewound the flick about a million times, but we were all so distracted that we had given up on following the plot when Addam finally got off work. Once he was home we basically just sat around shooting the breeze and watching movies until we all passed out in the living room. Addam woke everyone up at the end of Avatar, and we all waited together for Vicki and Tati’s bus to come. No one fell out of a tree this go around, so I’d say the night was a great success.

The rest of the weekend was pretty uneventful.  Addam pulled in more than 40 hours this week, so I’ve spent most of my time alone in the apartment, with a sweet little puppy to keep me company. Addam’s actually at work right now, and it’s looking like I’ll be able to fit in a few more movies before he gets home.

In other news —

My Aunt Martha is sounding better each time I talk to her, so thank you to everyone who has been keeping her in your thoughts and prayers. She’s still in the hospital, but she’s starting to walk more and knows what signs to look for in case anything were to happen in the future. I’ll make sure to update everyone as soon as there are any new developments, but I’m really hoping that everything just keeps improving.

I’m still planning a wedding update — I just need to secure all the dress photos before I post. I know that a bunch of my bridesmaids have been waiting to see what I’m considering and I promise, promise, promise — they’re coming soon! Trust that I have not forgotten about you!

And lastly — my little sista, Emily Ann, starts her second quarter at Ohio University tomorrow!  Good luck my love, even though last quarter has shown that you definitely do not need it. I know that you’ll be just as successful this go around and, as always, I am here if you ever need me. I always keep you close.
