“Sunk from a riot of relaxation”

10 Jul

While it was hard to bounce into the work week after such fun Fourth of July festivities, Addam and I made the most of it.

Missing a day makes Tuesday deadlines a little harder to meet, but after powering through production day I had a moment to catch my breath and start thinking about the wedding.

Addam and I met with a planner on Thursday to discuss everything we’ve done and everything we need to do. Her name is Ana, and after checking out her portfolio and sitting down with her I know that she’s going to do absolutely everything in her power to make sure the day is as close to perfect as possible. Since the wedding is a little more than a month away,  I was worried that she might not have enough time to pull everything together. Once I heard that she planned her own wedding in three weeks, my fears pretty much went flying out the window.

Ana is scheduling meetings at reception locations for next week. Addam and I are going to take a day to meet with her and check everything out, so invites should be out within the next two weeks. Even though everyone who’s coming has pretty much been planning to make it for the past year, I’ll feel a lot better once the invitations are in the mail.

Addam and I were both off on Saturday, so  Zach and Robert, one of Miami Today’s summer interns, came over to hang out for a bit. Zach’s girlfriend is studying for the bar exam, so he brought over their min pin/chihuahua mix, Diesel, for a play date.

We weren’t sure how the two would get along, but they seemed to have a good time. Yoga is a bit of a baby about her toys, but they had a good time chasing each other around our tiny apartment.

After watching some TV and shooting the shit, we all headed over to American Noodle Bar for lunch. It’s a local ramen joint that I’ve been wanting to check out for awhile now, so I was really excited to finally have the opportunity. While Addam played it safe with some chicken wings and rice, I had some whole wheat noodles in vegetable broth with tofu and bean sprouts. It was insanely hot when it first came out, but it was pretty good. While I have to say that I wasn’t as impressed with the restaurant as I thought I would be, it had a huge selection and a relaxed atmosphere. I’ll probably check it out again.

After lunch Zach and Robert dropped Addam and I back at the apartment. As I’ve said before, it’s rare that we get a day off together, and whenever we do we enjoy getting out and soaking up some sun. After a quick nap, Addam and I took Yoga out for a long run in the park. Addam packed a few beers and some wine, and we relaxed by the bay for about an hour or so while the puppy got all of her excitement out. While I could have camped out by the water for a bit longer, it was definitely a nice way to end an easy day.

Addam was at work by the time I woke up today, so the day has been pretty uneventful. I’ve been watching Nancy Grace’s recap on the Casey Anthony case and plan to clean up the apartment and wash some dishes while I wait for the Big Brother live feeds to come back up. (The hamsters must be having a veto ceremony, because all screens are playing trivia). Nominations are tonight at 8 p.m., so it should be a full day of BB13. (For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about — prepare for a Big Brother post next week to fill you in on the show and my opinions of the house guests.)

“Your hair may be brushed, but your mind’s untidy.  You’ve had about seven hours of sleep since Friday.  No wonder you feel that lost sensation.  You’re sunk from a riot of relaxation.” — Ogden Nash, poet (1902-1971).
