Celebrating Cinco de Mayo in the MIA

7 May

Happy (belated) Cinco de Mayo, everyone! I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday.

Each year Addam plans a big camping trip or cookout on Cinco de Mayo weekend, so it was no surprise that he requested to have the fifth off. He’d been pulling recipes and penning grocery lists for the last week, so I knew that this year’s cookout was going to be just as good as in years past.

Addam and I packed up the bikes and headed to the park at about 3 p.m., making a brief stop at Publix to pick up some last minute items that we’d need for the bar-b-que. Once we got to Morningside Park I realized that I forgot to grab some buns, so I ran back to the apartment while Addam set up our shade tent.

Big Brother 2012 Casting Calls: Cameo, Miami Beach

7 May

Everyone who’s met me knows that I take Big Brother very seriously. For those of you who are less familiar with the show — each summer about 12 to 14 houseguests are picked to compete in a three-month long power struggle for a half million dollars. Contestants are recorded 24/7 and receive no outside contact while in the house.

After following the show through 12 seasons, I applied last year in St. Petersburg but did not make the final cut. This year I got to apply in Miami, with the support of my handsome husband.

Fresh ink

23 Apr

Everyone loves getting new ink — and Addam and I are no exception.

This weekend we went down to Vince’s Nightmare Tattoo, where our good friend Adrian (Danae’s hubby) performed the perfect cover up.

Addam has had a tribal tattoo that he’s wanted to get rid of for awhile now, but he just recently figured out how he wanted to mask it. He finally decided on a tree and absolutely loves it! (Which is fortunate — considering he’d have to get half of his arm inked black if he didn’t.)

I’ve have a number of tattoos, but none are nearly as large as Addam’s. He said that it hurt quit a bit, especially toward his armpit. He was a trooper and finished up in about and hour and a half or two hours.

I think it looks great and can’t wait to head back for something of my own. Addam and I also want to get our wedding rings tattooed on before we head out of Miami, so it should be another exciting trip to the parlor!

Spaced Out: Celebrating John’s birthday

16 Apr

There a few things that every Miamian has to do before leaving the city.

The first is head to South Beach. The second is to hit up Club Space.

While Addam and I have become a regular pair of beach bums, this weekend we made our first trip to Space to  celebrate our good friend’s birthday. John goes every year, and this year he was lucky enough to land VIP seating in Miami’s hottest night/day club.

For the two people who haven’t heard of it (my mother surely being one of them) — Space is insane. Most people don’t even show until past midnight, and it’s practically unheard of to leave until noon the next day. Addam had to work the following Sunday, but even though we couldn’t go full-force, we did manage to get a little wild.

South Florida Showcase: Luda, Toubab and Chuck Shaffer

5 Feb

Addam and I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing too many shows since we moved to Miami about two years ago, but the ones we have seen have been more than memorable. The most noteworthy of which I’m about to recap in this post.

Since leaving Athens, Ohio after Christmas, Addam and I have seen three shows in Miami. As we are about to head out for another one next week, I thought now would be a good time to update everyone on our South Florida happenings. Trust me when I say that while the list may start strong, it only gets better.

The Married Life: Mangos and Apple iPhones

24 Oct

Hello, everyone! I’m sure you thought I had forgotten all about you in my absence, but rest assured that I’m back and ready to blog. I’m practically champing at the bit. (You like that, silly Medillies?)

While I wish I had more to report, things have been relatively relaxed since the wedding. Addam and I have spent our weekends hitting up Miami hot spots, such as the Clevelander and Mangos — just enjoying our first few months as a married couple.

The two most common questions I’ve gotten since the big day has been, “How’s the married life?” and “Do you feel different?”  Being Mrs. Evans honestly couldn’t get much better. We’ve been together for eight years now, and I’ll be the first to admit that from an outside observer, not much seems to have changed. We go out, we stay in, we work hard and we play harder. Inside, however, it’s night and day.

I’ve always felt secure in mine and Addam’s relationship, but it’s easier to approach life with the confidence that we’ll be side-by-side throughout every challenge and every celebration. I can’t explain it except to say that being married has influenced the way I approach each day.

Putting the wedding aside (as I am sure you are all absolutely sick of hearing about it),  Addam and I have a big announcement to make. After eight years, fair winds and following seas, we are proud to announce that we are putting our relationship to the test and becoming…

The Honeymoon Series: Friday, September 2

27 Sep

Judy and JoAnn surprised Addam and I with a one-night stay at the hotel of our choosing at our bridal shower, and we decided to talk full advantage. Addam found out about an awesome dubstep show on South Beach, and we planned our honeymoon around it. (Believe it or not, the show was actually called “The Honeymoon Series.” That really sealed the deal.)

After my Friday workday I biked across the Venetian Causeway to South Beach. There was a slight drizzle, but by the time I met Addam at The National the weather was perfect. Even though we were ready to hit the beach, we headed up the hotel room so that I could drop off my things.

The room was absolutely gorgeous, but nothing could compare to our amazing view! We were on the eighth floor, and our room looked out at both an Olympic-sized pool and the ocean. Hotel management surprised us with a bottle of champagne and some fresh strawberries, so after resting up Addam and I went down to the beach to get our honeymoon started right.
