Weddapalooza: Wednesday, August 17

24 Aug

Since I’m not quite ready to let my wedding go, I’ve decided to draw out the excitement by posting a series of blog posts highlighting the main event. Even though I rarely write my stories from beginning to end, I thought I’d make an exception in an effort to avoid confusion. (Sorry, Tarantino.)

I was off work on Wednesday but had so much to do that by the end of the day I was wishing I had just headed to the office. Addam had to clean the broiler at Red Lobster but got off at noon. Right as he was headed home I hopped on my bike and headed to the Miami Today to pick up my paycheck, which I needed to make wedding ends meet.

After running in so quickly that no one could see me, let alone stop me, I caught a bus and headed to David’s Bridal to pick up some last minute, but necessary, wedding items. While I found a cheap garter within two minutes of walking into the store, my luck pretty much went out the window from there. I searched the entire showroom and could not find a single set of cake cutters for less than $50. Not a single bra was affordable, and don’t even get me started on shoes…

7 years, 7 apartments

10 Feb

Forgive me for the length of time between blog posts. Addam and I have been busy moving, but it was limited internet connectivity that kept me from updating. AT&T should be coming out to hook up our DSL today, but in the meantime I’ve only had access at work – making it hard to keep you guys up to date. I guess I could have stayed late to write, but there was a lot to be done around the new apartment, and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving it all to Addam.

We’re finally all moved in, but the entire ordeal was a lot trickier than it should have been, considering that in the seven years Addam and I have been together we’ve moved seven times.

We spent Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday packing our lives into heart-shaped boxes, only to run into a series of issues when we went to pick up the moving truck on Thursday.

Addam and I woke up at 6:30 a.m. so we could make sure to get to the U-Haul place as soon as it opened at 7. Only when we got there they wouldn’t let us rent a truck because my driver’s  license didn’t match the name on Addam’s credit card. I don’t have a credit card, and Addam doesn’t have a license, making it impossible for us to leave with any sort of transportation.

We angrily biked back to our apartment to wait for the banks to open so I could get a credit or debit card. We got to Bank of America around 8:30 a.m., the place opened at 9 and by 9:10 we were turned away. I had to close my account after a Craigslist scam last year, and the bank would not let me open a new one. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you choose to look at it, I wouldn’t have been able to open one anyway. My wallet was stolen with my car last year, leaving me without two valid forms of identification. I called Wachovia once I got home, but as all banks pretty much operate under the same rules, Addam and I were up the creek without a paddle.

Back to business

22 Nov

Hello again, everyone!  Sorry for the hiatus.  I’m in the process of reformatting my blog and took everything down for awhile.  I know it’s still pretty empty up here, but I have to sift through three months of material, which is taking a lot longer than I expected.  I threw some of my better posts back up so that it wasn’t completely empty on my first day back. Expect some more material to appear in upcoming weeks, as well as a ton of new updates, because I’m finally back in business.

I’d like to say that tremendous things have happened since I last updated, but everything’s been pretty much the same.  I’ve been working five days a week and relaxing on the weekends.

Addam was home this past Saturday and Sunday, which, if you know anything about the restaurant industry, is as close to a miracle as you can get, especially considering he’s asked for  every weekend in December off.  We’re having family come in from Ohio next month.  His parents and uncle will be coming down the weekend after Thanksgiving, and his sister and her boyfriend, Ryan, are coming to Miami for a cruise the next week.  They’re going to stay with us the weekends before and after.  Super excited!  It’s been so long since we’ve seen any of the fam, and I’ve never gotten to meet Emily’s fella.

Saturday was the Bayside Rocks Festival, so we went downtown to see if we could catch part of the show.  We didn’t have money to get in, so we spent most of the day walking around the city and straining to hear any bits of Steel Pulse and Bunny Wailer that we could catch.  Which wasn’t too much, but we still had fun.
