Big Brother 2012 Casting Calls: Cameo, Miami Beach

7 May

Everyone who’s met me knows that I take Big Brother very seriously. For those of you who are less familiar with the show — each summer about 12 to 14 houseguests are picked to compete in a three-month long power struggle for a half million dollars. Contestants are recorded 24/7 and receive no outside contact while in the house.

After following the show through 12 seasons, I applied last year in St. Petersburg but did not make the final cut. This year I got to apply in Miami, with the support of my handsome husband.

Spaced Out: Celebrating John’s birthday

16 Apr

There a few things that every Miamian has to do before leaving the city.

The first is head to South Beach. The second is to hit up Club Space.

While Addam and I have become a regular pair of beach bums, this weekend we made our first trip to Space to  celebrate our good friend’s birthday. John goes every year, and this year he was lucky enough to land VIP seating in Miami’s hottest night/day club.

For the two people who haven’t heard of it (my mother surely being one of them) — Space is insane. Most people don’t even show until past midnight, and it’s practically unheard of to leave until noon the next day. Addam had to work the following Sunday, but even though we couldn’t go full-force, we did manage to get a little wild.

“The Rum Diary” – as seen by a H.S.T. fan

9 Nov

It’s been a while since The Rum Diary hit audiences, but it should come as no surprise that Addam and I were at the theater on opening night. Unfortunately as excited, and as nervous, as I was to see Hunter S. Thompson’s first published work on film, I found the movie very disappointing.

After work I biked over to South Beach, where I met with Addam. We had about three hours to kill, so we had a couple of drinks by the beach and shared a meal at a nearby hookah bar before making our way to the theater.

The theater was HUGE, and so were the advertisements. The show was practically sold out, so Addam and I had to sit separately. As frustrating as it was to have to watch the movie alone, at that point nothing could get to me. I first read the book as a freshman in college and had been patiently waiting for the movie for about six years.

The Honeymoon Series: Saturday, September 3

5 Oct

Addam set an alarm for 8:30 Sunday morning so that we could enjoy a complementary breakfast buffet, and I’m really surprised that I managed to make it out of bed. I don’t usually like hotels, but I was so comfortable that I could have relaxed in our room all day. Fortunately, I was dedicated to making the most of our honeymoon and managed to get my butt up and moving.

The Honeymoon Series: Friday, September 2

27 Sep

Judy and JoAnn surprised Addam and I with a one-night stay at the hotel of our choosing at our bridal shower, and we decided to talk full advantage. Addam found out about an awesome dubstep show on South Beach, and we planned our honeymoon around it. (Believe it or not, the show was actually called “The Honeymoon Series.” That really sealed the deal.)

After my Friday workday I biked across the Venetian Causeway to South Beach. There was a slight drizzle, but by the time I met Addam at The National the weather was perfect. Even though we were ready to hit the beach, we headed up the hotel room so that I could drop off my things.

The room was absolutely gorgeous, but nothing could compare to our amazing view! We were on the eighth floor, and our room looked out at both an Olympic-sized pool and the ocean. Hotel management surprised us with a bottle of champagne and some fresh strawberries, so after resting up Addam and I went down to the beach to get our honeymoon started right.

Weddapalooza: Thursday, August 18

28 Aug

The Thursday before my wedding started early and ended late. (As all good bachelor/bachelorette parties should.)

Addam and I had to meet with Ana, our wedding planner, to pay off Jungle Island at noon, so we were biking to Bayside a couple of hours before we were actually awake. After crossing Ts and dotting Is we were on our way to Crandon Park on Key Biscayne for our first official wedding run through.

Ben, bikes, boats and Biscayne

9 Apr

I have yet to fully recover, but I figured there was a group of people out there waiting to hear all about the fabulous weekend Addam and I had with his little brother, Ben.

Ben got in Wednesday afternoon, making it ridiculously difficult for me to concentrate on the interviews I had to conduct before calling it a wrap on my work day. I did my best to stay focused, and Ben picked me up as soon as I finished up. At that point we had a few hours to kill before Addam got off work, but we decided to go for a swim in South Beach rather than hurry home.

It was the perfect afternoon for swimming and the first time I’d been in water since the new year. Ben was amazed by how blue the water was and kept saying that it was the only time he’d swam in an ocean so clear, but I couldn’t believe the waves. Addam and I must have been catching the tide at the wrong time, because any other time we’ve been they have been pretty weak. That day, however, they were making me their lap dog. The waves tossed me all over the ocean, and by the end of an hour I was pretty worn out.
