Blogaroo: The Roo Experience

14 Jul

I know we’re about a month out from Bonnaroo, but I’ve been so busy with all the transitions in my life that this is the first chance I’ve found to update everyone about the amazing time I had there.

I’ll get to all of my life changes in a later post, but this one is dedicated to Bonnaroo 2012 and the bands that made the journey from Miami, Florida to Manchester, Tennessee worth the 14-hour drive.

Spaced Out: Celebrating John’s birthday

16 Apr

There a few things that every Miamian has to do before leaving the city.

The first is head to South Beach. The second is to hit up Club Space.

While Addam and I have become a regular pair of beach bums, this weekend we made our first trip to Space to  celebrate our good friend’s birthday. John goes every year, and this year he was lucky enough to land VIP seating in Miami’s hottest night/day club.

For the two people who haven’t heard of it (my mother surely being one of them) — Space is insane. Most people don’t even show until past midnight, and it’s practically unheard of to leave until noon the next day. Addam had to work the following Sunday, but even though we couldn’t go full-force, we did manage to get a little wild.

Celebrating independence

8 Jul

Happy Friday all! I know it’s been awhile, but with the short work week, I’ve been extremely busy writing articles and editing profiles nearly every evening. That said, I hope everyone had an amazing Forth of July weekend.

Addam had to work Saturday and Sunday, but we both had Monday off. In an effort to make the most of the holiday, we planned a cookout with our good friends John and Tati. John’s brother knew a guy with a yacht, so we decided to spend our Independence Day grilling out on the water.

After packing up some eats and hiding the dog, Addam and I hopped on the bus and headed out. It’s always a feat getting Yoga to stay quiet long enough to sneak her anywhere, but she was on her game. Despite running a little late, we got to our destination without incident.

Ben, bikes, boats and Biscayne

9 Apr

I have yet to fully recover, but I figured there was a group of people out there waiting to hear all about the fabulous weekend Addam and I had with his little brother, Ben.

Ben got in Wednesday afternoon, making it ridiculously difficult for me to concentrate on the interviews I had to conduct before calling it a wrap on my work day. I did my best to stay focused, and Ben picked me up as soon as I finished up. At that point we had a few hours to kill before Addam got off work, but we decided to go for a swim in South Beach rather than hurry home.

It was the perfect afternoon for swimming and the first time I’d been in water since the new year. Ben was amazed by how blue the water was and kept saying that it was the only time he’d swam in an ocean so clear, but I couldn’t believe the waves. Addam and I must have been catching the tide at the wrong time, because any other time we’ve been they have been pretty weak. That day, however, they were making me their lap dog. The waves tossed me all over the ocean, and by the end of an hour I was pretty worn out.

My “Ultra” fun weekend with friends and festies

28 Mar

Bear with me guys. It’s been a long week, and I’m going on a very minimal amount of sleep. That being said, I’m going to do my damnedest to write a full, coherent blog post.

After five or six years of service, Friday was Danae’s last day at Miami Today, so after work a group of us went down to Tobacco Road to celebrate her new opportunity. Addam got off work early, so he came out too. We spent a couple of hours hanging with the news crew before we decided to head down to Ultra, Miami’s very own, mini-Lollapalooza.

We couldn’t get in, but we hung by the fence in the hopes that someone would either drop or give us a ticket. Neither happened, so after an hour or so we headed home.

Once we got home I got a text from Danae, who said that she and her husband, Adrian, her friend Stephanie, who used to intern for Miami Today, and a few others were all heading to Churchill’s for after drink-drinks. Addam and I met up with them but didn’t pay the $8 cover to go in because we planned on crashing relatively earlier. (You know, 3 a.m. or so…)

Everybody’s having fun out here

2 Jan

After a weekend of wrestling with my internet provider, I’ve finally rid myself of connectivity issues, leaving myself free to post an update on how I spent my New Year.

While I thought I was going to spend the night watching movies and waiting for Addam to get home, the Eve ended up being far better than I expected.

Addam had to work until about 12:30 a.m., so I rang in the New Year with Tati, who came over around 10:00 p.m. or so. We spent the evening drinking FourLocos and watching movie after funny movie. We were honestly not paying much attention to anything but each other and almost missed the countdown entirely. I had the ball drop streaming on my laptop and happened to look down when there was 45 seconds to go.

We were about halfway through Zack and Miri Make a Porno when Vicki showed up. We rewound the flick about a million times, but we were all so distracted that we had given up on following the plot when Addam finally got off work. Once he was home we basically just sat around shooting the breeze and watching movies until we all passed out in the living room. Addam woke everyone up at the end of Avatar, and we all waited together for Vicki and Tati’s bus to come. No one fell out of a tree this go around, so I’d say the night was a great success.

The rest of the weekend was pretty uneventful.  Addam pulled in more than 40 hours this week, so I’ve spent most of my time alone in the apartment, with a sweet little puppy to keep me company. Addam’s actually at work right now, and it’s looking like I’ll be able to fit in a few more movies before he gets home.

In other news —

My Aunt Martha is sounding better each time I talk to her, so thank you to everyone who has been keeping her in your thoughts and prayers. She’s still in the hospital, but she’s starting to walk more and knows what signs to look for in case anything were to happen in the future. I’ll make sure to update everyone as soon as there are any new developments, but I’m really hoping that everything just keeps improving.

I’m still planning a wedding update — I just need to secure all the dress photos before I post. I know that a bunch of my bridesmaids have been waiting to see what I’m considering and I promise, promise, promise — they’re coming soon! Trust that I have not forgotten about you!

And lastly — my little sista, Emily Ann, starts her second quarter at Ohio University tomorrow!  Good luck my love, even though last quarter has shown that you definitely do not need it. I know that you’ll be just as successful this go around and, as always, I am here if you ever need me. I always keep you close.
